Meet #ESOSupernova

ESO’s second social media gathering

10 April 2018

On 27 April 2018, ESO is inviting all digital enthusiasts to meet the ESO Supernova Planetarium & Visitor Centre, a new cutting-edge astronomy centre for the public that will open its doors the next day.

The Meet #ESOSupernova event is aimed at keen social media users, passionate bloggers and other digital content creators from both the local community (Munich, Bavaria and Germany) and the European and international community.

The event is organised in Garching, near Munich in Germany, at the Headquarters of the European Southern Observatory, where the ESO Supernova is also located. The planned language of the event is German, but depending on the participants attending, English may also be used.

From 09:00 until 13:00, event participants will have the chance to enjoy an immersive experience at the ESO Supernova. A special exhibition tour will give participants the opportunity to test our exhibits. They will also become familiarised with our educational programme and watch the award-winning planetarium show The Secrets of Gravity, produced by local company Softmachine, in our 360-degree inclined planetarium — the largest in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

The ESO Supernova team and ESO astronomers will be there to welcome participants and answer all their questions.

To register their interest in attending the event, digital enthusiasts should fill out this form, indicating their online channels (blogs, social media, vlogs, etc.) in the field “Media outlet” and mentioning “Meet ESOSupernova” in the field “The event you wish to attend”. As event attendance is limited by the 109 seats in the planetarium, a selection will be made based on the following criteria. Applicants should:

  • Be a keen and experienced user of digital media.
  • Be at least 18 years old at the time of the visit.
  • Preferably have at least a conversational level of German and English.

Selected participants will be notified by email or social media. Make sure you follow @ESOSupernovaDE in German on Facebook and/or Twitter, or @ESOSupernova in English on Facebook and/or Twitter. Look for messages from both ESO Supernova and our Community Coordinator, Oana Sandu.
