Telescopes at ESO's first site in Chile: the La Silla Observatory

Image caption: The Swiss 1.2-metre Leonhard Euler Telescope (front) and the ESO 3.6-metre telescope (rear) at ESO's La Silla observatory. La Silla, in the southern part of the Atacama Desert of Chile was ESO's first observation site. The site is set 2400 metres above sea level, providing excellent observing conditions.
